How to Become an Accredited Employer in New Zealand?
The purpose of the new Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV) process is to encourage businesses to hire New Zealand workers before they hire migrants and comply with the Laws and regulations in relation. Therefore, business need to establish through AEWV that they are trying to hire a New Zealander first and in the same time they are good employer for migrants when no New Zealanders are available for the Job. The criteria to satisfy INZ requirements vary depending on business types. A business needs to satisfy the immigration that the business is sustainable and compliant. Therefore, the business need to make commitment to provide supports and declare to follow due process in relation.
What I need for Accreditation Application?
Business Sustainability
You need to meet one of these financial requirements:
- you have not made a loss over the last 2 years;
- you have had a positive cash flow each month for the last 6 months;
- you have enough capital or external investment for your business to remain viable, or
- you have a credible 2-year plan to ensure your business remains viable.
If the business is operating for less than 12 months, you will be asked to upload specific evidence such as evidence of start-up capital or funding, cash-flow or revenue forecasts contracts for work, GST returns, PAYE returns.
Confirmation of Compliance & Declaration of Commitments
- The business must be compliant with New Zealand immigration law, employment and business standards.
- As a part of the application, you need to declare that the company, the employer, and those running the company are all compliant with New Zealand employment laws and standards, and with the Immigration Act 2009.
- You also must not be bankrupt or subject to a No Asset Procedure.
- You need to go through declarations for a number of commitments related to the recruitment compliance, obligation to provide support for migrant settlement i.e., giving your migrant workers specific information about working and living in New Zealand, and community services in their local area.
- You must tell them about getting an IRD number, industry training and qualification options that apply to them, relevant job or industry hazards, accommodation options and the cost of living, driving and driving licence information and public transport options, health services, Citizens Advice Bureau services, relevant community groups.
- You need to complete these settlement activities within a month from the day the migrant starts their employment contract.

- You need to provide details of business and the key people in your organisation such as business IRD number, NZBN unless you are a foreign diplomatic mission, the full name, passport number and date of birth of key people in your business/organisation.
- Most applications will be assessed based on the declarations made during the application and based on publicly available information or information held by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment.
What Happen Once the Business is Accredited?
