Arranged Marriage Visitor Visa

The objective of the culturally arranged marriage visitor visa is to grant you a short-term entry to marry a NZ resident or citizen. You can apply immediately after you got married or  you can get married after you get your visa and arrive in New Zealand. You can also bring your family and friends as attendee at your wedding. However, they need to apply for general visitor visas.

Your supporting partner must be either a citizen of New Zealand or a residence class visa holder!

Requirements for Culturally Arranged Marriage Visa Application.

1. One acceptable photo of the main applicant according to INZ specification. Please find the details of the INZ specification at this link https://www.immigration.govt.nz/new-zealand-visas/apply-for-a-visa/tools-and-information/acceptable-photos.
2. Scanned copy of applicant’s passport and the passport of applicant’s partner (main pages).
3. Applicant’s chest X-ray (Not required if the applicant plan to stay in New Zealand for less than 6 months or pregnant). Please find a medical centre near you at this link https://www.immigration.govt.nz/new-zealand-visas/apply-for-a-visa/tools-and-information/tools/panel-physicians.
4. Applicant’s police clearance certificate if the applicant is planning to stay in NZ for more than 24 months.
5. Supporting Partner’s NZ Residence visa or NZ Passport.
6. Relationship timeline explaining how the marriage was arranged and when the applicant and the partner met, why they decided to marry/ be in relationship.
7. Support the statements outlined in the timeline with evidence of communication (screenshots of emails, CV or pictures sharing communications or any other documents you think relevant).
8. Evidence that your marriage follows an identified cultural tradition. Depending on your circumstances, evidence may include any of the following:

• records of any communication between the parents of the couple and any other person acting as a go-between or matchmaker
• documents indicating that the arrangement or ceremony is publicly recognised
• confirmation from an independent source that the arrangement or ceremony is part of the couple’s cultural customs
• a written account of how the marriage was arranged
• any other documents that show your marriage is culturally arranged.

9. Marriage certificate if marriage already happened.
10. If applicable (in case of second marriage), evidence of termination of previous marriage.
11. Pictures taken together as evidence of meeting in person.
12. Evidence of applicant’s home country circumstances to demonstrate that the applicant is likely to return to home country at the end of the visit visa. Depending on the circumstances, such evidence may include:

• a letter from employer approving the leave and confirming applicant’s return to work after the visit
• If currently studying, provide a letter or student identity card from the education provider
• a letter explaining family ties in home country
• if applicable, a retirement certificate or evidence that the applicant receives a pension.

13. Evidence of funds. The applicant must have at least NZD $1,000 per month, or NZD $400 per month if the applicant has already paid for the accommodation in NZ. Evidence can include:

• proof of accommodation pre-payment, like hotel pre-paid vouchers or receipts; or
• bank statements or credit card statements, or
• bank drafts or travellers’ cheques, or
• a sponsorship. The sponsor needs to complete and sign ‘Sponsorship Form for Temporary Entry’ (INZ 1025) and the sponsor must provide evidence they can look after you in New Zealand. Evidence may include:
• recent bank statements, or
• pay slips, or
• employment agreement, or
• accommodation ownership or payment of rent. (Please note that the sponsor must be a New Zealand citizen or the holder of a New Zealand residence class visa or an organisation or a government agency).

14. Partnership support through Immigration Online Portal (we will provide more details about it later).

15. Declaration Form (INZ 1224) signed by the applicant.

16. Additional requirement of funds or sponsorship if the applicant is pregnant and intend to give birth in New Zealand.

The applicant must have at least NZD $9,000 available for this. Evidence may include:

• bank statements or credit card statements, or
• a sponsorship. The sponsor needs to complete and sign ‘Sponsorship Form for Temporary Entry’ (INZ 1025) and the sponsor must provide evidence they can look after the applicant in New Zealand. Evidence can include:
• recent bank statements, or
• pay slips, or
• employment agreement, or
• accommodation ownership or payment of rent. (Please note that the sponsor must be a New Zealand citizen or the holder of a New Zealand residence class visa or an organisation or a government agency).
